School—Parent Compacts

What is a School-Parent Compact?

A School-Parent Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach grade-level standards.

Effective compacts:
Link to goals of the school improvement plan
Focus on student learning skills
Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality instruction
Share strategies parents can use at home
Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress
Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer, observe, and participate in the classroom.

The parents, students, and staff of New Hope Middle School developed this School-Parent Compact for Achievement. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, parents added ideas to make them more specific, and students told us what would help them learn. Meetings are held annually to review the Compact and make changes based on student needs.

Parents are welcome to contribute comments at any time.

Goals for Student Achievement

District Goals

Goal 1: Increase the WCS graduation rate from 91.13% to 93.13% over the next three years for all students.
Goal 2: Reduce the achievement gap(s) in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
Goal 3: To increase the capacity of all WCS teachers and leaders to enhance student learning through evidence- based professional learning.

School Goals and Focus Areas
New Hope Middle School administrators and teachers have studied our student performance data to determine the most important areas of improvement for our school.

Goal 1: Increase student achievement in ELA and Math based upon GA Milestones by 2% for the 25-26 school year.
Goal 2: Increase PBIS students’ participation in reward days throughout the year by 2%.
Goal 3: Increase parent involvement participation by 2% for 25-26 school year.

Teachers, Parents & Students — Together, for Success

6th Grade

Teacher/School Responsibilities

We will provide academic nights.
We will consistently update Infinite Campus.
We will provide communication tools such as Remind101.
We will provide opportunities to engage in 21^st century learning and improve computer-based technology skills.
In the classroom, we will focus on literacy strategies emphasizing vocabulary across all content areas.
We will support student learning in math by providing resources for skills review as well as real-world application.

Family Responsibilities at Home

We will do our best to attend school organized academic learning nights.
We will designate study time and study space in our home.
We will check Infinite Campus once a week.
We will sign up for New Hope Middle and teacher Remind.
We will take responsibility to contact teachers concerning any questions that we may have.
We will use diverse learning resources provided by the school: IXL and Google Classroom.
We will contact Kelly Bennett or my child’s teachers to check out materials from the Parent Resource Center when my child needs extra academic support.

Student Responsibilities

I will attend school.
I will talk with my family about what I am learning.
I will use the tools provided by the school for updated classroom information (examples: Infinite Campus, New Hope Middle School website, Facebook, Remind text, Instagram, and the Parent Resource Center).
I will develop study strategies and study for tests.
I will be responsible with Chromebooks and other technology tools and practice internet safety.
I will do my best at all times by persevering and asking for help when needed while keeping a positive attitude.
I will be responsible with books from the media center and by bringing supplies to class with me.
I will be organized with my school supplies and have them in class with me.
I will stay loyal to the “Kodiak ROAR” statement in order to become a productive member of society.

7th Grade

Teacher/School Responsibilities

We will provide academic nights.
We will weekly update Infinite Campus by posting grades efficiently.
Our classroom will provide communication tools (Blackboard Connect, Good News cards, email, and Remind text)
We will help students develop learning goals.
Provide opportunities to engage in 21^st century learning and improve computer-based technology skills.
In the classroom, we will focus on literacy strategies and SIOP strategies across all content areas emphasizing vocabulary.
Support student learning in Math and ELA by providing resources for skills review as well as real-world application.

Family Responsibilities at Home

We will have GOOD ATTENDANCE.
We will use diverse learning resources provided by the school.
We will designate study time and study space in our home.
We will do our best to attend school -organized academic learning nights.
We will encourage our student to read and to engage in critical thinking.
We will contact Kelly Bennett or my child’s teachers to check out materials from the Parent Resource Center when my child needs extra academic support.
We will check Infinite Campus on a regular basis.
We will take responsibility to contact teachers concerning any questions that we may have.
We will sign up for teacher reminds.

Student Responsibilities

I will be at school.
I will talk with my family about new content vocabulary words and what I am learning in my classes
I will use my designated study time and study space at home to complete my missing work.
My family and I will use the tools provided by the school for updated classroom information (examples: Infinite Campus, IXL, Destiny, Online Book Check out, New Hope Middle School social media, Remind text).
My family and I will develop study strategies to meet my individual needs.
I will get plenty of rest to be prepared to learn.
I will work on listening and paying attention.
I can use learning games to help me.
I will stay loyal to the Kodiak ROAR, PBIS school expectations, and PAWS to reinforce positive behavior.
I will take advantage of opportunities to participate in school activities.
I will check with my teacher for missing assignments.
I will try hard to reach my student learning goals.

8th Grade

Teacher/School Responsibilities

We will provide academic nights.
We will consistently update Infinite Campus.
We will provide communication tools (Remind text from teachers.)
We will help students develop learning goals with Students Learning Plans.
We will focus on literacy strategies across all content areas emphasizing academic vocabulary.
We will incorporate academic strategies to solve real world problems across all content areas.
We will explicitly teach students study strategies.
We will consistently use Google Classroom as an instructional tool to facilitate learning.

Family Responsibilities at Home

We will do our best to be at school.
We will monitor our student’s progress and responsibilities through Infinite Campus and Remind text.
We will use diverse learning resources provided by the school.
We will designate study time and study space in our home.
We will complete makeup work when absent.
We will do our best to attend school organized academic learning nights.
We will encourage students to read and to engage in critical thinking.
We will sign and return school paperwork.
We will contact Kelly Bennett or my child’s teachers to check out materials from the Parent Resource Center when my child needs extra academic support.

Student Responsibilities

I will talk with my family about new content vocabulary words and what I am learning in each of my classes.
I will use my designated study time and study space at home.
I will use the tools provided by the school for updated classroom information (examples: Infinite Campus, New Hope Middle School website, Facebook, Remind text, Instagram, Parent Connection (email), Google Classroom, and the Parent Resource Center).
I will take responsibility to check Infinite Campus weekly to see grades and missing assignments.
I will complete my missing work.
